MEDIA ADVISORY: For Immediate Release

Calgary, August 25, 2021 – GlobalFest is excited to offer 50% off tickets for Frontline workers as we welcome Team Philippines competing in the International Fireworks Festival at Elliston Park.

When: August 26, 2021

Where: Elliston Park, Calgary

What: Team Philippines Fireworks at GlobalFest

The final team competes tomorrow night with Team Philippines, closing out the competition portion of the International Fireworks Festival. Frontline workers are invited to enjoy the night’s festivities with 50% off General Admission tickets with discount code FRONTLINE, just for Thursday 26 August.

Designer Robert Basihan, of Blue Peacock Fireworks presents “A Lorica” (Our Fight Song) as a tribute to all the victims and survivors of COVID-19 and the real heroes – front-line workers. The show is a storytelling of what has transpired since day one and made the world stand still in the fight against the pandemic. This is the fourth submission from the Philippines to the pyromusical competition.

The Philippines Night is supported by new sponsor Excel Homes, aligning with their community building goal of creating homes for families.

Each night of the festival, adjudicators look for:

  • The quality of the display.
  • Originality of the artistic concept: the choice of music and staging.
  • Brilliance and richness of the colours that are used.
  • 50% of the music used is native to the presenting country.
  • Synchronization: the precision of the marriage between the music, sound effects and fireworks.
  • The scope of the work.

The result of these artistic requirements are presentations that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world, making each night of the GlobalFest International Fireworks Festival a world premiere presentation. In a typical year, the competing team flies in to build the show themselves, but with ongoing travel restrictions the designer will be directing a local pyrotechnics team remotely.

Attendees are encouraged to bring waterproof jackets and blankets to stay warm and dry in the cool evenings. Live updates and any weather holds will be announced across GlobalFest’s social media channels throughout the day.

The last night of GlobalFest wraps with the Finale show on Saturday 28 August, presented by local Canadian team Archangel Fireworks Inc. General admission tickets are selling fast, with VIP Village already sold out for the closing night of the festival.

2020 ticket holders must exchange their tickets in person at the GlobalFest offices prior to attending the event or can hold their tickets over if they wish to defer until 2022.

Tickets are available online and at the gate. Gates open 6pm, with over 20 international food booths to tempt the taste buds, and four stages around the lake providing entertainment from several of Calgary’s cultural associations.
