Calgary, August 18, 2021 – GlobalFest is excited to return to Elliston Park tomorrow night with Team China scheduled as the first of the four competitors in the International Fireworks Festival.
When: August 19, 2021
Where: Elliston Park, Calgary
What: GlobalFest Opening Night
GlobalFest returns to Elliston Park on Thursday night with Team China opening the International Fireworks Festival. Designer Yongjun Peng of the Liuyang Jinyi Fireworks Co., Ltd is presenting “Summer of Passion”. This will be China’s 9th year entering the explosive pyromusical competition.
Located in the world’s fireworks capital – Liuyang City, Hunan Province – Liuyang Jinyi Fireworks Co., Ltd is a professional fireworks company that has planned and implemented many large-scale, influential fireworks shows in their home country and abroad since its establishment. This year’s planned fireworks display is mainly red, green, silver and brocade – cool and light colours for the scorching summer evening.
Each night of the festival, adjudicators look for:
- The quality of the display.
- Originality of the artistic concept: the choice of music and staging.
- Brilliance and richness of the colours that are used.
- 50% of the music used is native to the presenting country.
- Synchronization: the precision of the marriage between the music, sound effects and fireworks.
- The scope of the work.
The result of these artistic requirements are presentations that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world, making each night of the GlobalFest International Fireworks Festival a world premiere presentation. In a typical year, the competing team flies in to build the show themselves, but with ongoing travel restrictions the designer will be directing a local pyrotechnics team remotely.
This year’s International Fireworks Designs are proudly presented by new sponsor IG Wealth Management, as part of their commitment to investing in the community.
The forecast is looking promising for opening night, with some light rain clearing the smoke. Attendees are encouraged to bring waterproof jackets and blankets to stay warm and dry. Live updates and any weather holds will be announced across GlobalFest’s social media channels throughout the day.
Gates open 6pm, with over 20 international food booths to tempt the taste buds, and four stages around the lake providing entertainment from several of Calgary’s cultural associations.
2020 ticket holders must exchange their tickets in person at the GlobalFest offices prior to attending the event, or can hold their tickets over if they wish to defer until 2022.
Tickets are available online and at the gate. General admission and VIP Village experiences available.
