GlobalFest takes the OneWorld Festival to Cochrane for Alberta Culture Days

GlobalFest is excited to present live performances from its OneWorld Cultural partners this Saturday September 25, as part of the 2021 Alberta Culture Days festivities.

Taking place at Precedence Park in Cochrane, it will also be the launch of GlobalFest’s new Reaching Out Program, supported by Champion Sponsor Trico Homes. “Reaching Out” aims to expand on the community development work that is already underway, by connecting with new corporate partners and growing communities, to create a more inclusive and engaged city.

This particular initiative, titled GlobalFest Groves, is intended to be a network of in-community green spaces created collaboratively with OneWorld’s cultural association partners throughout the greater Calgary area. Located alongside pre-existing urban reserves, these will be casual gathering spaces, landscaped with trees, seating areas, interpretive installations and level space for community events and performances.

A peek of what Groves is planned to grow into can be enjoyed through the afternoon of entertainment this weekend. GlobalFest will showcase dancers and musicians from Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park, Iran, Thailand, Mexico, Ukraine and the Philippines, plus Capoeira performers from Brazil and Scottish Highland Dancers.

There are two free performances scheduled, at 1pm and 3pm. Park capacity will be limited, we request that attendees adhere to social distancing guidelines and that all individuals wear masks.

Also released as part of the Alberta Culture Days programming, the Canadian Cultural Mosaic, Chapters 1-3, is available to view on the GlobalFest YouTube channel. Is a visual retelling of the history of migration and cultural influence on Canada’s development.

Alberta Culture Days, September 1 – 30, is about discovering, experiencing and celebrating our unique blend of peoples and passions, and the importance of culture to a healthy and vibrant province. To learn more, visit www.AlbertaCultureDays.ca
