The GlobalFest Team

In the days leading up to the start of my new job as Marketing and Communications Coordinator at GlobalFest, I was running countless scenarios through my head of the day-to-day life in the office: hundreds of people running around, hard to make friends, no proper desk or cubicle for me. I could not have been further from the truth. This blog is going to be more of an appreciation post for the GlobalFest team. For those who do not know, only TEN people working at GlobalFest, including the 3 temporary summer interns. Of those ten people, there are usually

“GlobalFest is Just Fireworks”

I think that one of the biggest misconceptions about GlobalFest is that the whole premise of the organization is around just putting on a firework show. Many people that I talked to about GlobalFest would ask verbatim “Oh that’s the fireworks thing, right?” Before joining this organization, I also thought that; however, I quickly learned that there are a multitude of projects that happen annually. The mission of GlobalFest is to celebrate, showcase, and promote Calgary’s ethnocultural diversity while simultaneously strengthening the community. Earth Day 2022

Earth Day 2022 GlobalFest is a community development organization focused on the creation of a more inclusive society, without barriers and with greater understanding. As a non-profit social enterprise, we offer festivals and events to fund a major portion of these works. Addressing environmental impacts of outdoor festivals, particularly those involving fireworks, is about tracking action, working toward improvements, and committing to ongoing progress and quality outcomes. To date, GlobalFest has focused its environmental efforts with a recycling program, redirecting compostable waste, and leaving the venue in better shape than we receive it. Our official pyrotechnic supplier Archangel Fireworks

The History of Fireworks: Part 4 | The Influence of Fireworks

Who Were the First to See Fireworks In this day and age, fireworks can be seen on display during celebrations, national holidays and at ILLUMINATING festivals such as GlobalFest! But were fireworks always this accessible? Who was the first to see them? And which countries made them what they are today? In the beginning, fireworks were gunpowder packed into bamboo shoots and thrown into fire but eventually, they evolved into so much more! Soon after, the Chinese developed paper tubing and paper fuses for easier ignition. This super innovative technology was soon picked up by Italian explorer Marco Polo while

The History of Fireworks: Part 3

How Much Does a Firework Show Generally Cost? You might be wondering how much these elaborate and dazzling shows cost. Let’s just say, it’s a lot of bucks for your bang! Some of the bigger and more complex shows that include music, digital coordination, and large firework shells can cost upwards of $2600 CAD per minute!   Ottawa's 150th-year celebration was Canada’s most expensive firework show EVER put on - $250,000.00 was invested into this breathtaking show displayed over Parliament Hill. Shows as large as this require an extreme amount of attention to detail and timing. This display included more
