(Calgary, AB – June 2nd, 2016) The GlobalFest Human Rights Forum presented by TD - Breakfast presents award winning Egyptian-Canadian journalist and formerly imprisoned author, Mohamed Fahmy. Fahmy will be discussing his story and advocacy for world press freedom on Wednesday, August 17th from 7:30AM-9:30AM at Civic on 3rd.
Fahmy, a renowned journalist and author, has spent much of his career covering definitive global events that have shaped our world today. Fahmy was serving as the Egypt Bureau Chief of Al Jazeera International when he was arrested in December 2013, capturing the world’s attention. Fahmy was incarcerated for 400 days – including one month in solitary – alongside ISIS terrorists and Jihadists in various maximum security prisons in Egypt. Egypt’s government faced international outcry from the United Nations, the European Union, and U.S. President Barack Obama when Fahmy was accused and subsequently charged with conspiring with the Muslim Brotherhood and fabricating news to the fundamentalist’s group’s agenda. Fahmy was pardoned by the Egyptian government and returned home to Canada in October of 2015. Now on his path of reflection on this life-changing experience, Fahmy is joining us to advocate for international freedom of the press at both the Human Rights Forum Breakfast and the free-to-attend afternoon panel discussion at the John Dutton Theatre.
Tickets to the Breakfast are $50.00 + GST with no additional service fees and are available online at These tickets include two general admission tickets to GlobalFest’s Mexico Night of the Sunbelt Rentals OneWorld and Trico Homes International Fireworks Festivals. Corporate tables of eight will also be available for purchase online at a rate of $400.00 per table.
Since 2007, the GlobalFest Human Rights Forum presented by TD has also served as a platform for sharing experiences, knowledge, and practical solutions necessary to address issues of racism and discrimination in a positive, safe and respectful environment.
