GlobalFest’s Human Rights Forum - Day 2

Topic: “Role of Temporary Foreign Workers in the Canadian Workplace”

What:

Come out tomorrow, Tuesday, August 18 to John Dutton Theatre, Calgary Public Library and see attending Calgarians actively participate and discuss with community leaders and legal experts on the topic of TFWs in a 30 minute question and answer period, following a panel discussion.

GlobalFest’s annual Human Rights Forum presented by TD continues with the topic of “Role of Temporary Foreign Workers in the Canadian Workplace”. The Human Rights Forum begins the second of its five-day sessions featuring immigration lawyer Raj Sharma, Devin Yeager representing UFCW 1118, and Paul Wannet of Cargill Foods High River. Collectively, these speakers will discuss the roles and experiences of temporary foreign workers in our local communities.

The Human Rights Forum is free and open to the public, with a free lunch offered on a first-come-first-served basis.

Who:

Raj Sharma is a lawyer and founding partner of Stewart Sharma Harsanyi, one of Western Canada's largest dedicated immigration law firms. He is a former Refugee Protection Officer with the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) and frequently appears before all its divisions as well as the Federal Court of Canada. He received his Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall.

Devin Yeager, through his work as the Secretary Treasurer for the United Food and Commercial Workers Canada, Local 1118, has been an advocate for Temporary Foreign Workers through the TFW Program as well as those under the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program (SAWP).   

Paul Wannet is the Human Resource Manager at Cargill High River. He has been the primary lead in the implementation of Temporary Foreign worker at Cargill High River and has excellent working knowledge of all aspects of the Alberta Immigration Nominee Program.
